Sonda +M / Central de Informação
78% of journalists surveyed by “Sonda + M / Central de Informação” are against cutting advertising on RTP. The majority (65%) believe the measure could jeopardize the station’s survival. Among those who agree (22%), the most common response is the belief that public service should not be “funded by advertising.”
Despite the disagreement over this measure, the Action Plan for the Media, presented last week by the Government, is approved by the panel. 61% of those surveyed consider the document “positive,” with 4% even rating it as “very positive,” the same percentage that rates it as “very negative.” 9% believe the Plan will have no impact, and 22% say it is “negative.”
As for the most positive measures in the document, 31% highlight the “50% discount on digital subscriptions” as the most relevant. This is followed by the “journalist hiring bonus” and the “offer of a subscription to high school students,” each mentioned by 22% of the journalists on the panel. The “increase in public capital in Lusa” is cited by 9%. Next, with 4% each, are the “distribution of newspapers in the interior of the country,” the “increase in paid postage,” and the “integration of digital platforms into solutions for the sector.”
The data come from the third edition of the “Sonda + M / Central de Informação,” a media barometer composed of 49 Portuguese journalists in editorial or management positions from more than 30 national media outlets. The survey period for this edition took place between October 9 and 15, 2024, and achieved a response rate of 47%. The Sonda is an initiative of +M, part of the Eco universe, and Central de Informação.
